Reptiles and teens!
Hello, I'm fifteen years old and i've been into reptiles all my life. I've been wanting a ball python for a ittle under a year now, and have been doing exxssessive research on them. I want to start out with a bumble bee under 100 grams. Is this all the material ill need?
-15 qt tub (until it grows out of it)
-Under tank heater
-Water bowl
-Thermostat and Humidity gage
-Substrate paper towls
-Hide
-trio of African soft fur rats (To breed and pre kill for ball python)
-Mister to keep humidity up
Thanks, please leave your opinion below! Maybe leave some pics of your collection!

nice dude bumblebees are awesome
you need 2 exact hides and try not to do ASF rats because from what i understand they are a last resort thing

Word of advise..for one snake just buy your feeders your going to birth more than you can feed off and before long you'll be over run..Just buy a mouse or rat once a week and enjoy owning a wonderfull snake with out worrying about having to breed your own feeders.

Re: Reptiles and teens!
yeah buying is way better. i thought about breeding my own feeders as well, but that idea quickly got tossed out the window after all the advice i received here suggested against breeding feeders for 1 snake.

You beat me to it, Ed. For a single snake going out and buying a trio of ASF would be overkill. You will wake up one day and realize that you have one snake and 200 rats and counting.
Just buying your single prey item is cheaper, and MUCH easier. Your everyday mice and rats will do. btw, it doesn't get much better than a bee for your first bp!

Re: Reptiles and teens!
You don't NEED a hide at all in a tub, you can use one but it's not a NEED.
I only give hides to shy snakes, out of 20 snakes in house only 3 have hides.
I agree with the others, buying for one snake is much better than breeding, the overflow of unfed will get you, lol.
Also with tubs there is no need to spray, humidity is generally not an issue.

Agreed with the above, On the subject of feeders.
Id also toss in the suggestion that if you think you might want to breed in the future, maybe try and get a female for your first one so you have a nice big girl by the time youve grown in experience and are ready. .
Thats really more of a side note, but its one I have wished someone had told me back in the day.

Hi,
Thermometer.
Thermostats are only for controling your heat source - I would try and get the acurite weatherstation with probe from wallmart at $12 as it can read temp and humidity at the base unit and temps at the end of the probe.
