Re: ball python het albino markers?

I have been told about a "marker" for the het albinos bieng that it will have a single white scale on the front half usually on the upper part of the snake.

That's boas, and its kind of a myth... I've seen tons of normal boas with white flecks here and there, so it would make sense that het albinos would also have a white scale here or there.

I have also heard people say that het albino boas have significantly lighter eyes than non-hets. But I don't know how true that is either.

Pretty much every het albino that I have ever produce has a brown spot on both sides of their nose. Might be unrelated the the albino gene but mine do have it.

I have a early 09 bee at about a 1000g eating medium rats feeding once a week. I would say medium rats is plausible.

I have 6 month olds that are at over 600 grams eating hopper rats, so I don't see why not.

Re: ball python het albino markers?

I don't believe that marker thing for one second.

First of all, to PROVE a genetic marker, one would have to breed the snake that carried the marker and produce the correct color of hatchlings, preferably more than once. I simply cannot believe an '09 female could be proven, unless it was bred way to young, which creates a whole new set of problems. And even if it had been bred and had produced the desired color, it would have to be bred more than once and to at least two different males to really PROVE the so-called genetic marker. That is impossible, since no female could produce twice in less than a year.

Long story short, the seller is pulling your chain. Even if there were a genetic het albino marker; it is not 100% accurate, or every het albino snake would have it. If every het albino snake had it, the breeders would know about it by now. I'd pass on that deal.
