OMG...that is just terrible...and she is such a pretty girl. Good on you for saving her. I swear it just totally kills me everytime I hear things like this.
I just rescued a 3 year old Blue tongue skink.....took her to the vet. She has MBD...2 fractures in her tail and a fractured wrist, only a couple of toes left and an infection. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....seriously cannot stand ppl that don't take the time to learn how to take care of their animals...or just don't care.
Ok...so sorry to go off....I will go get a glass wine now....carry on!

Ouch. Poor thing. I'm glad you took her in! And yeah, I'm pretty sure the eye is dead. As long as nothing gets infected, she should make a speedy recovery though. Best of luck with her! Keep us updated!

Some people just dont know they are doing wrong. Not that it excuses it.
At least snakes have other forms of vision such as there heat pits and jacobson organ. Blind humans will be much worse off compared to a ball.
At least she looks nice and round and she is in good hands now. Im sure she will live a very happy snake life for the rest of her life.
Good job on your behalf for taking her in.
Hope it goes well for you both

Also remember pet stores can give out bad advise and the lady may have thought the advise was correct and didnt take research any further.
Thats why places like this site are so important.
Keep up the good work everyone

Your much nicer then I am.
PERSONALLY, this kind of neglect should be accounted for via the law. I know its harsh, but animals ESPECIALLY PETS, rely on us to feed and take care of them. I consider such things just as abusive as if the son beat the snake.
I cant believe how ignorant people can be about animals. I am so knew to the snake world and even I know that snake must have been in absolute horrible environment.
After I got the snake, that mother (and son if he were around) would have gotten quite more then a mouth full of my "thoughts" about them.
Major kudos to the OP for saving this girl. Please keep us updated on her health. Good luck to you.

Jim, she was not purchased from a petstore. They bought her from another neglectful owner. They did no research what-so-ever and it really grinds my gears because it's sooo easy to find on ball pythons, of all things.

I completely understand the frustration. My last rescue was a poor leopard gecko who was completely deformed by MBD and had huge abscesses in his mouth... We fought for two months and he was really looking great until he had a sudden down turn and he had to be euthanized. Poor baby..
Good luck with the BTS, they're great lizards. I hope you can turn her around.
As far as Manasa goes, I took her to the vet today. We went to Town and Country Vet Clinic up in Marietta, GA. Dr. Contarino was amazing as always and took great care of Manasa (though the receptionists were pretty scared of her, even though she was bagged!)
She's on Cefazolin injections to take care of any infection that may be trying to crop up. He said that despite what she had been through, she was in pretty good condition. She's been sounding a lot better after just being put in a proper container with proper heating...
She wasn't too pleased about the shots but she was still a great girl, no biting and only minimal struggling... She's going to be on shots for the next two weeks.
Anyone want to help me give her a shot once a day? Haha..curses, living by myself
