....................... Well its a standard 4x2x2 poly stock tank filled about half way with a 50/50 mix of beach sand and soil. It has 3 basking spots provided by one 67 watt halogen food bulb and two 45 watts. The lamps are all attached to dimmer switches and are set to provide one basking spot of 155F another at 145F and the third is set for 135F depending on the rooms temp they fluctuate +/- 5F. The ambient air temps range from the mid 90s by the lamps and low to mid 80s on the cooler side and all the cage furnishings are cork bark and fallen tree limbs. Ill try to post up some more pics tonight suzuki.

Great setups and very nice Varanids. I really want a sav when im a little more settled, most likely after graduate school. What do you feed him and how often. Ive seen some places say adults will eat once a week. I find that a little hard to believe. And are the enclosures a pain to clean? Im sure a pretty big sav leaves some pretty big messes often.

.............................. Thanx for the kind words redstorm. I feed the Sav every other day or so, on mostly Dubia roaches, superworms and crawfish. On the rare occasion (like once a month) ill toss him some chopped up mouse or chick.
As far as cleaning out the enclosure its really simple. I dont. The Sav always craps in his water bowl and the substrate is basicaly its own living ecosystem full of beneficial bacteria and detrivores that is totaly self cleaning. Any waste or missed bits of food are broken down and gone in hours.

This is great stuff. It's tough watching impulse purchases of animals come into rough situations when people leave town. I waited also, like you're talking about, and I was dying inside without the ability to keep animals until I finished school.

You're correct, it's hard to believe. A lot of the misinformation about Savannah Monitors comes from the snake world, people tend to believe what works for one reptile works for another. Feeding a monitor a large meal with a long fasting duration in between encourages the storage of fat, leading to more obesity, leading to health issues. In the wild they forage for insects and mollusks throughout the day, and stay more lean (and live longer).

I feed the Sav every other day or so, on mostly Dubia roaches, superworms and crawfish.

are they kept in a reptile room? What is the ambient of the outer room generally?

I am trying to figure out an economical way to provide a good sized cage in a super cold house.

.......................... They are kept in my bed room. The temps in the room vary from 70F-90F depending on the time of year.
