So if he's planning on getting a job to "buy a super pastel and killer bees yada yada yada" hows he going to get to work? Have his parents drive him to work everyday till he builds up his multi-thousand dollar collection? Isn't there a thing in life called priorities? Or has this idea of "priorities" completely gone to crap? You guys think I am being mean or whatever but your seriously leading this kid on to be completely dissapointed.
Really now? You dont NEED a car to go anywhere.

What if he works 2 blocks down the road? Maybe he wants to get some exercise and walk or ride a bike to work. Maybe he dont want to take a car because he doesnt want to be some fat lard butt who is out of shape. Do you take ur car to work? Better question how much exercise do you get? If its not a lot then maybe u should consider walking or riding a bike to work

Heres what i think. Not trying to insult u but i think you didnt get everything as a kid. I think your so negative against him because everything he wants to do as a kid you couldnt. So how about you quit being so negative about stuff. Just because stuff doesnt go your way or you dont think he should do it doesnt mean u need to constantly tell him he cant do something. I think you need to grow up really.

Actually as I kid I had plenty. I worked to get everything I wanted.

I never thought about buying tons of snakes and breeding them before I had a way to get to work though.

And really, unless you want to live in the same town your entire life and never leave to even go on a small road trip or vacation, or EVER work anywhere but a small place 2 blocks from your house, then you are going to need to buy a car. What about college? Is he gonna walk to college too? He gonna walk his wife to their honeymoon too?

    Priorities > Snakes

Youd rather have more snakes over a car? LOL wow okay bro

    Re: Parents and reptiles!

And for the record my son is 12 and he owns a ball python (which i help take care of but hes learning)

We also got a boa? Should he own these snakes alone? Not really but me and him take care of them together both a learning exp for us both.

Now when he turns 16 if he wants to get a car he can if he says he wants to not drive but keep snakes thats fine to. He doesnt need a car. Id rather him walk to work anyways our youth need some exercise

But seriously dude, the "drug" thing makes no sense. Why would your only 2 options be buying a Ball Python or smoking crack? Please....

Theres other options like "save your money till your entirely sure" or "buy a car". It dosn't have to be buy a snake or smoke crack cocaine does it? wtf

Well, Kaorte tried to be nice about it.. but since it obviously didn't work.. here comes Jess, the big mean 'ole cranky lady!

You really have a nasty attitude, and to be honest, I'm getting quite sick of it. I started keeping reptiles when I was 10 years old. Got my first leopard gecko. No big deal. I started keeping snakes over 5 years ago, and now I'm 19, in college, and have a collection of 26 reptiles.

This is my passion. And my mom supports me 100% on it. Would I own snakes over a car? YOU BET I WOULD.
I take the train to school, I don't need a car, I could get a bike if I have to, or take the bus. Also, I don't live in the city, at all. People just don't know how to get off their butts and use their legs and walk. I stay fit and I don't pay for gas, a car, and insurance!

Did I have a job at his age? Nope. My family is poverty stricken but I earned my money working odd jobs for something I can truly enjoy, and now that I'm old enough to have multiple steady jobs, I can really pursue my passion and build a collection.

This is one of the most responsible sounding 15 year old or younger kid that I have ever seen come on to these forums (besides coolio, who just about wins the award!).

He's so responsible, that I'm going to PM him with some personal advice because he doesn't deserve to look through all these posts of negativity. Go be pessimistic somewhere else.

    Re: Parents and reptiles!

If a 15 yr old is responsible I see no reason why he shouldn't get a bp if his parents are on board with it. I have a friend who's son is 13 and is responsible for quite a bit of the snake care now....and does a great job with them.
I've noticed some pretty negative responses in this thread and don't quite understand why. When someone comes here with a question jumping all over them and calling them "kid" is not a very productive way to respond.....btw your age still ends in the word "teen".
Tiff is younger than the OP and I think she does a wonderful job and shown responsiblity with her animals. It's not like it can't be done.
When I was 15 I was caring for approx 30 herps at a local Nature Society and doing educational things with youth groups there. If you had told me that I couldn't handle one bp due to my age at the time I would have laughed in your face. Some people in that age group are better off waiting to make sure it's not just a passing fad and I think that everyone should have a back up plan just in case it is just that.

So many people rely on cars. Me if i need to run to the gas station for something i walk there (unless its gas )

    Re: Parents and reptiles!

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it

To PurplePython: Like I told you, I've got 9 snakes all well cared for and eat without hesitation. I'm younger than the OP like Walt had stated and I've been keeping snakes since I was 10. I'll also be 15 later this year and will most likely have a lot more snakes than I do right now.

My point is that age does not matter to whether you have the responsibility of owning snakes or not. It really is up to the OP's choice to own a snake and be responsible. I see why you got furious but it was really not needed since all the OP was asking was about how to go about convincing his parents into having a snake of his own so he can get into this enjoyable hobby.

To the OP: I apologize for the disrespectful posts on this thread, so I will give you the answer you were looking for.

If you want to prove to your parents about having a snake of your own, let them now you have full responsibility of caring for it and show that you have that responsibility by doing things around the household and helping them out. Let them know you'll be paying for everything.

Also, if you need suggestions on where to get stuff for cheap like hides or water dishes just ask us and we'll give ya some places to visit. I personally like the Dollar Tree the most for hides & dishes
