Education is important, it needs to be interesting to to make them want to learn more. Thats why I think Snakebytes is great. But we all need to share our knowledge about reptiles with others to eliminate this fear.
Another time this weekend my mom came over to see my ball python. She loved her colors and we were chatting While I was taking a few measurements upstairs when this convo happened.
Mom:"What are you doing."
Me: "Measuring for an Anaconda cage, I'd like to get one this fall or next year. I'll probably move opera up here to when I get a new cage cause it's warmer up here."
Mom:"An Anaconda? Those are monsters!"
Me: "No Yellow males rarely get over 9 feet and female max out at 12. Greens do get very large but I'm wanting a yellow. They aren't monster either way they just require more attention and respect."
Mom: "Son just promise me when you get that thing you'll keep a knife on you at all times incase it tries to break your neck"
Me: "I love you mom."
And I continued trying to explain facts to her. Parents are....special people.
