Re: I Got Our Bedroom Painted Finally!

I love it! I do think the solid bedspread would help. As for curtians, my mom and aunt helped me with mine, and all we did was get flat sheets from Wal-Mart that matched the colors on my area rug and we nailed them to the wall above the windows in a way that they are bunched in places. I have ribbons that match that I used to tie them back during the day. I think it would have been better to attach them to something other than the wall so they could be taken down to be cleaned (it's not fun the way I have to do it now ) but they are really cute, and really simple.

Congrats on the new, fun room! ^_^

Holy wow...that had to take some time. Its amazing...you did such a great job. Make a green comforter...green ...green...green....it will look awesome with the wood of the bed. You can also make the curtains out of the same thing....even if they are heavy...that is the style for curtains right now. Plus it will match the heavy look of the wood. OR.....he he....you can get wood blinds that match the wood on your bed....that would look awesome and stand the test of time. (warning...don't get fake wood...it doesn't last as long and doesn't look as good). The wood blinds will cost more but will last forever if you take care of them.

So I guess I know who to call next time I need help with a paint job.

Thank you! I made some curtains for the living room, but our dobie has taken up ripping them off the window for me I might have to start nailing them to the wall like you do!

I agree about needing a solid bedspread!

Oh my gosh you had no idea! 9 hours straight the day I finished it, and 3 hours the day before! A green comforter sounds lovely It would look very nice with the wood wouldn't it. Don't worry I'll make heavy curtains! I came home one day and found my 12 pound cat hanging from the top of the living room curtains I made Luckily they were heavy enough to hold his weight and not tear!!!

I've looked at blinds and my goodness they are expensive! Do you think the wood ones would stand up to cats? None of our kitties are declawed so cloth blinds have always been out of the question. We also can't have the plastic blinds because the cats make "window" in them by breaking the blinds in their favorite spot too look out off. The house had heavy metal blinds when we moved in thank heavens!

Oh no!!!! Everyone wants me to paint for them now!

I have the same problem with my cats. It may be a good thing my curtains are nailed to the wall... my 20 some odd pound cat likes to lay in the window when the curtains are closed, and he pulls on the curtains pretty hard. My other cat paws at them... lil demons. I can't have the mini-blinds either...the cats break them by forcing their way through all the time... which is why I chose the cheap sheets from Wal-Mart. If they destroy them, it's not too much of a disaster. (I hadn't tried actual curtains before and I wasn't sure how long they would last...)

how the heck did you get it aligned so good? Love it!!!!!! We are doing our house now too...We thought we were wild with the Texas Longhorn orange (HOOKEM HORNS). Im going to show my husband this. I might do a bathroom or kitchen and maybe smaller squares so as not to copy...and def agree with the other posts on a solid bedspread...IMO I wouldnt do any wall hangings, I would do some kind of accents like tall stand alone candle holders with one candle of each color. Or if you did do wall hangings, maybe a simple canvass of solid color and hang it like a diamond to contrast against the squares...but thats just my opinon.....Im sure it will look great whatever you decide

Oh my gosh, I love the idea about the canvass hung like a diamond!

Thank you very much! You trick is to not look to close, then the squares look perfect We have a laser leveler, but the darn thing was too heavy to tape to the wall, even with dutch tape so I had to try my darnedest to make the lines straight by measuring down from the line above and putting pencil marks. The up and down lines were harder, now that I think of it I should have just used something with a 90 degree angle

I would be flattered if you "copied" me It was A LOT of work, but totally worth it! I love going into our bedroom. I've taken up playing on my laptop and watching TV in there!

Oh big metal candle holders with maybe big black or dark brown candles...ohhhhh!! OMG...I totally want to shop for you now. lol

As far as the blinds ...I have the dogs and though they don't climb up it...they do stick those noses in them all the time. I would just leave room for the cats at the bottom...(pull them up a bit). We had custom wood blinds put in our house and it has been close to 4 years now. They still look brand new. Make sure if you do get them...that the person measures EACH window. Even though they look the same size...they could be a 1/2 inch off. This way they fit perfect. Also when we have the window open...we lift the blinds so that they are not banging. But they have been really really sturdy. Plus the extra bonus...it doesn't get hair on it.

Now we did not go with the high end Hunter Douglass stuff....we actually went with a local guy out here that custom makes them himself. It was half the price...but still very nice. Still it does run pretty high. Also you can get a top trim for the blinds and you can go very plain or very intracet...it really finishes them off nicely though

    I sooooooooo love decorating stuff....lol
