Sam is right. In order for the 3D to work, you'll need a tv that runs AT LEAST at 240mhz. The reason being that it is basically "flicking" between 2 different images in order to create the 3D effect. So the tv needs to "refresh" very quickly to do this... On top of that, you'll still need the glasses AND the 3D blu ray player.

HOWEVER, 3D has been around for the consumer for many years now. They've made children's movies in 3D for at least a decade and I'm 99.9% sure those folks didn't have a state of the art 3D tv and 3D blu ray player since they weren't even out yet!!

So it'll be interesting to see if Avatar 3D will NEED the special 3D blu ray player...
Correct, 3D isn't new by any means, but the current gen 3D stuff all require certain quipment to run properly. I personally think it is a load of crap. I can see the TV needs, but the player and even surround has to be certified. Ridiculous rules only put in place to make you buy new stuff.
