I have seen Worm snakes with a very red belly, also might be a Red Bellied snake both species by me would be adults at that size.

    It's actually a legless lizard I believe.

I don't know of any species of legless lizards with a red belly, and the animal is using the defensive strategy typical of a red-bellied snake. The head does look like a legless lizard, though. Dunno.

I'm with the other folks not seeing this as funny, though. I see a domesticated animal harassing and possibly injuring wildlife here. The chick might be cute, but the pecking is pretty brutal. I question why the camera person saw fit to allow it to continue.

Agreed.... just plain stupid not very comical.

Re: Chick catches snake, snake catches chick

I dont know if I think it's funny, but I did think the chick being frustrated with a snake wrapped around its leg was cute.

I dont know the circumstances of the video, but if that snake wasnt intentionally placed there but the camcorder was brought out to tape the chick's interaction with the snake, then what is the harm?
However, if this was intentionally set up, then yes I agree that it is wrong, but that doesn't change the fact the chick is cute.

So this is a big deal because it's a domesticated animal harassing wildlife? I dont see anyone complaining about cats catching field mice, or dogs going after squirrels or rats. Im just saying you guys might be a little uptight and are reading far more into the video than what it was originally posted for.

Or is it a big deal because it's a snake and god forbid something happens to one? Im confused.

As for you being crucified for freezing a rat:
    1) I wasn't aware
    2) Pretty sure I don't care what you do as long as you stand behind it. Plenty of people on here have frozen left over feeders without properly euthanizing them. Plenty more have stunned or pre-killed by whacking a feeder against a wall or something instead of going about it the prescribed, humane CO2 way. They just wont admit to it.

Re: Chick catches snake, snake catches chick

Personally, I also did not find the video very funny and found myself for the majority of it (up until the snake wraps around the chick's leg) a bit uncomfortable. However, the comparison of this to a house cat and a field mouse brings up a very valid point. I'm sure your average person will find a few smiles in here, simply because the title "Chick Owns Snake" on youtube is more likely the bring up the vice versa (Rat Snake Eats Live Chick, Monitor Eats Rabbits, Ball Python Eating Baby Chicken, Ball Python Swallowing Chick). I think, perhaps it is refreshing for these people to see this big chick pecking on this little snake after seeing a monitor swallow a baby rabbit live with audio. Maybe, in a morbid way, there is even a bit of a triumph to be had that finally a chick has trumped a snake. So yes, as a reptile forum this is clearly going to make a few people uncomfortable. However, sometimes we need to take a step back and realize that not all people, and maybe not even most, have a warm spot in their heart for the cold-blooded.

i think this is really no different from the idiots that post videos of their snakes eating.
