I am going to guess, but I'm probably one of the largest rodent breeders on this form, and we use pine. Have since 2000 with no problems, except it getting into the nozzles sometimes, and causing floods.

I think the aspen absorbs the odors better, corn cob is the best for odors however. But cob is messy.

I pay $23 for an 8 cubic foot bale of aspen, so i think that is a pretty good deal. I always give the best to my pets, even if some disagree, pine smells a certain way for a reason and can cause problems in certain cases.

Don't know the # exactly, we do it according to amount of feed.

We feed 11-13 tons of mazuri and Harlen feed a month. Oh, and a ton is 40 - 50# bags. So in a week the guys feed aprox 113 50# bags. Thats in the winter, in the summer the feed will go up to aprox 15-20 tons a month.

Geez. That is a lot of rodents.

I'm pretty sure pine is becoming safer. It's not like she's going out into a field to get it. I do think it's important to teach the new members certain pine is ok, but to be careful what you use. So, it's probably less confusing for them to tell them not to use it at all. It's an advance bedding

I bought a bale of aspen for $11 at petco. But you can get the little compressed bags at walmart for only $3.50.

I would love to see your facility, sounds impressive.

A ton is a skid. So in the winter you wipe out half a tractor trailer load per month. (you can put 40-44 skids per trailer depending on type and how it is loaded)

How big is your building? What do you heat/cool it with? What type pf racks do you use?

I pay about $20 for a big bag of aspen which will cover about 20 tubs.
