Re: Have you ever been bitten by a feeder??
When we first got our breeders set up, they were...not very nice. We had multiple offenders and they would seriously lunge across their tub to clamp on to your hand. I'll take a snake bite over a rat bite any day, those rats are ruthless. Rat bites seem to bleed forever, and they stay sore for numerous days.
That being said, we have a zero tolerance policy for aggressive rodents these days. They get a lot of day to day interaction and we make sure we stick our hands in every tub every day or so to keep them "friendly". If any fall off the "friendly" wagon, they are instant food.
If only they knew their fate from day one, they'd probably all be biters. Sure little rat, you can trust us, promise.

Re: Have you ever been bitten by a feeder??
I've been nibbled at by a lot of mice but only one broke skin. She got dropped, the cat is always waiting closeby just in case one jumps or gets dropped. I was recently given some completely unsocialized gerbils, adults and babies and was suprised none of them tried to bite. I've been bitten by rats a couple times, which is why I don't breed them as of yet, I want to start with babies so I can handle them young. Rat bites bleed like mad!

Re: Have you ever been bitten by a feeder??
I've been bit by more than my fair share of rats over the past 10 years since I've been working with snakes. Luckily, all of my rats now are quite docile, and it is very rare I get bit - last time was a defensive mother sometime late last year. I'd take tags from each of my 50 some odd of my snakes over a bite from one of my rats any day. Goes right to the bone and bleeds forever. Not nice at all.

Yes but it was just a small rat. But still sucked.. But the little guy jumped out of his cage and fell on the floor then ran into a little dead end hole in the wall and stupid me wanted to get it out of there so I grabed it's side with my fingers on the fur and swung around and bit me. it was not nice.

Re: Have you ever been bitten by a feeder??
I have been bitten multiple times by my ASFs. Most times they've just nipped, hardly painful, but they've drawn blood a few times. Not fun.
Just 0.1 normal BP, 1.0 mojave, 0.1 California King, 0.1 Saharan sand boa, ~20 hermit crabs, a Patriot crab, 5.0 rats, and a herd of mice and ASFs

To the bone? I will never hold a live rat.
