your not kidding, i wish that's what i had done! I guess by even making it up to close to 80 w/out mites i'm lucky enough i should go by a lottery ticket or something lol. I don't know how it happend but it did, and i'll do everything i can to make sure they never come back!!! thanks for all the advice everybody! I still wish i'd hear something about that bioshield stuff lol sounds kinda too good to be true!

I got it, and used it. It seems to be a perfectly fine product. There's no way of verifying how well it works, of course.

The negative issues:
It is a little pricey. It doesn't go as far as you might think.

The stuff is highly toxic while wet, so you need to wear rubber gloves, and apply it in a well-ventilated area (or use a respirator). Use eye protection--seriously, because spraying this stuff is likely to cause splashing, and you don't want it in your eyes. Outdoors is probably safest, but of course, it's winter, so that's not practical, and probably wouldn't work (it would freeze).

It takes a while a dry.

The positive issues:
It lasts 3 months and is washable, so you don't have to reapply it every time you clean.

Assuming it works as advertised, it gives you some added defense against bacteria that may make your animals ill.

It's totally safe once dry.

My conclusion after using the product:
I would use it in my quarantine bins, and I would use it in my breeder bins at the start of the breeding season. If I could find a safely ventilated but warm place to apply it, I would probably use it all winter for my breeder bins. It's probably a great idea for hatchling bins, too. I don't think I would bother using it for all of the bins, as it's too much hassle to apply, is too expensive, and the other snakes are unlikely to get sick anyhow. However, I do a monthly to bi-monthly sterilizing of my snakes' bins. If you don't, this product might be a very good choice to reduce bacteria levels in the bins until you DO sterilize them.

thanks! yeah i realize theres really no way to prove it prevents bacteria etc. for atleast 3 months but was just curious if anybody else uses it. I already clean / sterilize regularly but it said you could still wash/ sterilize while it was being used as it won't wash off. Just seemed like a great "back up plan" defense if it actually worked. And kept everything bacteria free between cleanings. More than likely i'll pick up one bottle since a can of prevent a mite is only like 7bucks extra if you buy a bottle. thanks for sharing your experience though!

I was getting about 16-20 treatments per can. That was treating 4 enclosures once per month for prevention. If you want to buy it in bulk, try calling Bob Pound directly, and see if they have any bulk pricing for you. As for the bio-shield, I have never used it. If you decide to try it, let us know how it works...

I most certainly will let everybody know if it works. I'll definately be picking up atleast one bottle to try/ test. It'd be kind of hard to see if it works just in the tubs but i figured i'd do an experiment with a 2 pieces of bread or some food items left out. One sprayed with the bioshield which is supposed to last for atleast 3 months and one without for the control. If it works theoretically the food item w/ out bioshield should grow mold before the other one. any other suggestions on how to test it, and i will. thanks though.
