I'm actually interested in looking at international options. Are there any tidbits of info you can share?

I have two adopted cousins and I just couldn't imagine our family without them! I'm glad you're weighing this option.

I don't have any specific advice, but I imagine that you'll want to explain how they're not a thread. And depending on cage set up, possibly install some locks or something to give them even more peace of mind that they won't get out. Lots of people keep snakes and babies together.

My little sister was adopted from China when I was 13.

I don't know how much things have changed, but we went through an agency called Adoptions From the Heart. Our homestudy wasn't done by the agency, it was done by the state.

It was a fairly long process then- 18 months-ish I think, all told. It depends largely on the country that you are adopting from, though. Romania is closed to international adoption now, but there are still many countries where you can adopt. The laws, procedures, wait times, and expense depend on the country. After my surrogate son was born I donated breastmilk to a family who had adopted an infant from Guatemala. It had taken them 8 months, I think. But I think they had gotten in under the wire because I believe they've started putting holds on adoptions with all of the recent scandal.

Really, as far as the snakes go, social workers don't usually go around looking for excuses to not let families adopt. More the opposite.
