Re: Female rats and lipomas
I think you did exactly the right thing. From my very limited knowledge, little lipomas don't cause any significant harm or discomfort, so I don't feel there was anything wrong with you allowing them to live while it appeared it was not bothering them. As soon as you saw it was negatively affecting Dexi, you arranged to have them humanely euthanized.
I think euthanizing both of them together shows just how much you care about them and put their needs above your own.

Re: Female rats and lipomas
Sorry to hear about your loss.
It seems the pets that live the shortest give us the most joy.
Just look at Chinchillas or ferrets.
I think their short lives makes their time her all the more precious.
I know you did what you could for them, and it's just the way of life.
From the sounds of it, they brought you much joy. Seeing that, I would encourage you to get another pair in your life.
Both to help ease the pain, and to keep the love for these animals in your life.
My condolences again.

Re: Female rats and lipomas
I thought about getting another pair, but they were unexpected (they were bought as snake food and for some reason Adalae didnt want them so I kept them) and they were such a handful - but in a good way. I don't think I'd like to have any more. I was so pleased with those two and each rat is different. I'd rather have the wonderful memories stay in my heart and not risk trying to find a comparison and failing.
Besides, I have 4 birds and 4 rabbits still to look after (as well as the three snakes). I have my hands full.

I'm so glad you got to be with them. It can be hard on the owner, but it's so much better for the animal. They know you are there with them and will be much happier and calmer because of it. You've taken great care of them and you gave them them one more precious gift as you chose their happiness and comfort, over your own desires.
I'm so sorry that you had to day goodbye to them. Just know you did the best for them in life and death and that they will continue to be together and will live on in your heart.
I'm glad there are others that love their rats as much as I do, makes me feel a little more sane.
Big hugs to you!

Re: Female rats and lipomas
in my opinion i can tell u care very much about ur rats, to go even the extent of getting them creamated says alot. not to sound harsh but if i have a issue i feed them off.... but then again this is a reptile fourm and i keep reptiles, and im not a heartless or mean person, and i keep great care of my animals (even feeders)but i dont think i would even take the rat to the vet to be euthinized, rather just buy some co2 and water and put them down that way. im sorry to hear about ur rat, but if it it means ne thing...... since this is bp.net im assuming u keep a ball python..... and im sure it will refuse some more food in its future and u might find urself with another hairy pet. sorry just trying to lighten the mood
