i used to use play sand and never had a problem only reason i stoped was cause 1 the smell and the dust . My wife and i kept all of our beardies in play sand all 25 of them never had one case of impaction and we used it for over 2 years. Also baby beardies should never be kept in sand or play sand paper towels or news paper would be best
