I dont do FT however I have heard that it is good to have them on rats because you feed less. Meaning instead of later on feeding 2 jumbo mice...you could do 1 rat. It might be better since he is on rats to keep him on rats.

Agreed, I'm just not sure that anyone around here sells F/T rat pups. I can check around but I do know there are large adult mice... I'll have to keep an eye out!

    Thanks BP

Also as an update, I've covered 3 sides of the ViV with a dark colored (facing inwards) wrapping paper. It's ghetto but the same method I used on my Corn's Viv and from what I can tell, he seems pretty secure in there.

I can't tell from the pic, but is your thermometer probe reading the temp under the substrate or on top of it? It also looks like you have a pretty thick layer of substrate. You might try using only about 1/2- 3/4 inch of substrate. It may let more heat radiate into the tub and bring the ambient temp up a bit...

    Re: Just in!

    Hey,

The pic is deceiving. The probe is taped to the plastic above the UTH (which is on the outside). The out temp is the probe and the In is the ambient.

Also, it the substrate looks deeper than it is as the outside corners of the viv are deeper than the middle. THe middle has about 1/2-3/4 while the outside perimeter (where the plastic sinks about 1/2 of an inch) has about 1 inch of substrate.

Haha, nothing sweet really. Just your standard therm/hyrog but I got it from amazon for like $14.

    Re: Just in!

You are doing just fine. as long as your ambient temp is about 75* its fine.

Sitting out in the open is pretty common for a new snake. It just takes some time for him to feel comfortable relaxing in the hides
