trying to make something happen
alright i put one of my male pastels in with a female last night. I didnt really have any kind of cooling period my room has just been at like 72 degrees, and i never lowered the basking spot. I just hear everyone talking about lowering the temps to this and mine has been like this for a few months now. Right now there sleeping with one another. Shes coiled up around him but there tails dont seem to be doing anything. How long can locks last? And how long does it take for them to get "aquainted?"

Re: trying to make something happen
Locks can be a couple of hours or 24 hours plus so if you havent witnessed anything yet its not to say they havent done anything, its just a case of catching them in the act.
Like it has already been mentioned if you keep to 3 days in and 3 days out and you should see something if they are ready to breed.
I dont cool as such , i take advantage of a colder cool end during the winter.

Re: trying to make something happen
yeahh i dont get it either...
but my room doesnt really get about 73 during this time of year and it seems that temp seems to be around the norm for cooling periods. only thing i didnt do was lower the basking spot. i figured having them in this low of ambient w/o there basking spot could be dangerous so im waiting till next year to really try to breed once my snake room is done. Its been two days and they are laying on each other and getting along fine. Female is almost 3000 grams, and the male is about 800grams just over a year old. He went off feed for some reason, and he never does this so i thought maybe this was a breeding indicator thats why i used him. And hes my only male

Re: trying to make something happen
I started cooling down oct 1st and started introducing my male het lav in with my het pied nov 1st...I know its a very poor pairing but all I have thats ready at this time...my male instantly takes to her and locks are seen almost every time I enter the room. I let him have it for three days then three off. I will do this until feb or march or until I see ovulation....I am not quite sure if this is totally right I am fairly new to this but it seems to work for me...Good luck on your future projects..

Re: trying to make something happen
In my experience younger males lock for short periods and therfore you maynot catch it.
73 is pretty low so that should be enough to get breeding going and maybe why your male is probably not eating.
Also if the female is not cycling she maynot be interested at all in breeding and the male also maynot be as interested.
I will bet next year the male will be a much more aggressive breeder and lock for longer periods.
I have had males breed and produce babies their first year without ever seeing them lock only to watch them lock for days the next year.

Re: trying to make something happen
My male Mojave is a only 17 months and he just started breeding about a month ago, at first he was clueless and not interested, only a week later he was all that and a bag of chips! Now he locks for at least a day at a time.Just keep putting him in 3 days in and 3 days out.

What do you mean cycling? I put him in with her because I noticed her hanging out on the cool end which i thought was a little peculiar because the temps are kind of low already and i know this is behavior of a female ready to breed. Also shes my biggest girl at the moment so I felt more comfortable putting him with her. How do you properly cycle?
