Yeah I was waiting for the "wheres the proof" question.. It was proven on here not long ago that petsmart knowingly contributes to them and petco (unknowingly) contributes by way of some education program ran by HSUS.

I believe it was one of the mods that was able to find a link of info on this and posted it. Hopefully whoever did will see this and post it again.

That's how the shops are out here too. No hides at all, a very small water dish and some sand. One pet shop in the mall today brought in some corn snakes and they use this giant pyramid that is fully open as a hide.

My petsmart doesn't sell anything bigger than a corn. And, they are a horrible store. Not as bad as Petland across the shopping center.

I drive the 30 miles out of my way, to Zookeeper in Austin. Well worth it to avoid dealing with people that don't know anything about the animals they sell.

    Re: WOW petsmart............

The closest Petsmart to me has a really nice reptile setup. The balls and boas are never more than ~100 grams so they probably sell them quite often. They use a half log in the ball tank but the back opening is flush with the back wall of the enclosure. I think being is such a densely populated area they can actually get knowledgable associates here.

I go in there a lot but hardly ever buy anything. The only item I purchase with any regularity there is my dogs food. Knowing about the HSUS support I might not even get dog food there...

do a google search for local pet shops in your area. Chances are you can find one that carries canidae--IMO it's best bang for your buck food out there and better than anything the box shops carry(we feed orijin to our dogs, but they're BIG time spoiled).

    Re: WOW petsmart............

I saw something at a Petsmart that made me never want to walk into one again.

According to the manager I later talked to, what led up to this was a "new" employee fed 2 milksnakes, then put them back in the same cage. You do the math.

The thing that really pissed me off is she kept apologizing for the incident, like someone dropped something on the floor and broke it. She also said the employee thought they were supposed to be caged together cause the supplier shipped them together (I found that hard to believe).

The problem I have is I like Petsmart's frozen mice better than Petco's. But I still shop at Petco.

    Re: WOW petsmart............

I order my pet supplies offline. I get my mice from Sean @ EBN, if he wasn't there though then I would order them online, I refuse to give the other local petstore any money because of their lack of knowledge and poor conditions.
