OT- coachwhips and racers

does anybody keep them, i forgot they excisted antill i saw a reptile filed guide and saw pics of them. im not interested in them but just wanted to know.

I keep western coachwhips and central tx whipsnakes during the spring, to watch them and study the agression in them. Yellow bellied racers too. Pretty cool snakes

thats cool, so im assuming you catch them and let go, right does people breed them fro pets as well

I can't say I have ever seen captive bred coachwhips or racers for sale. I usually let them go after a few weeks, or by the end of summer.

Glades herp Farm (Gherp.com) Sells black racers on occasion. For just 5 bucks. Only downside, they are super fast and super agressive (for the most part.) If you wanted one, just contact them and ask them to bring some to the next show near you (Im sure they will go if it's a large scale show.) That's how I got my trio, when I kept them.

Due to their fast metabolism, speed, and typical aggression, I can't think of many people that would have them as pets. Most species, anyhow.

How do you study their aggression? Just curious. I don't understand why the OP forgot they existed, they are awesome snakes!

Drymobius margaritiferus anyone?! Look it up, seriously.

they are cool and pryro, thanx for breeder but not interested just wondering. and Dutch, i guess i forgot about them since all ya really hear any more is bp morphs, or the python ban, so my mind set is on them..

I've had yellow bellied racers in the past and one piceus.

One racer was a rehab that went to a local wildlife museum - a full grown adult that bucked the aggro trend they tend to carry. Very docile. May have had something to do with all the medical attention and handling he went through when he was rescued.

For years I wanted a piceus and got my chance. I have never been bitten more times by an animal..........wild.

I kept a juvenile yellow bellied. It was wild caught and very nippy at first. It eventually calmed down a lot and even allowed its head to be touched. Unfortunately after a few months of my care (even with eating) it had a bad shed that I didn't catch and died. I'll miss the little dude. It sure makes me want another.
