Re: Worried about cool side tempreture :SS

Anything under 80 farenheit can cause winter fasting and under 75 could cause RI's in your more sensitive BP's especially if accompaniedd with dry air. I use and oil filled heater on a ranco thermostat for my snake room and also my quarrantine room. They arent so bad on the humidity, are relatively cheap and not as much as a fire hazard as other types of heaters..

Well, what about just a small room heater? Over here they are called space heaters, and most come with a thermostat built in.

If you put a small room heater in the room where the snake is to raise the temp of the whole room, it would also raise the temps of the cool side of the enclosure. This is what I did. I have 8 snakes right now, and I have UTH for hot side temps, and I use a small room heater to keep the room warm enough for the cool side temps. Once I get my snake rack built this spring, I'll have UTH for both sides, but for now this is cheap and it works.

If this is an option for you; if the snake is in a bedroom like mine and not the living room, which would be much harder to heat, it should be less expensive than another UTH and thermostat. At least I would hope so.

its not an option for me to heat the room since it would mean heating half of my house, cause my house is a long corridor divided into rooms and i have a door in half of it were kitchen starts ( its just a small house with 4rooms)

is it ok to put a towel or a jeans between the UTH and the vivarium or there's a risk of fire hazard like that ?

There shouldn't be a risk of a fire hazard but how will this help you? You need air flow under the UTH in order for it to heat up properly.

Re: Worried about cool side tempreture :SS

the towell didnt help. heat was the same but cool side was also the same if not worst. the snake seems happy tough it eats without probs its not stressed and looks good. i currently cant afford another uth and a thermostat for my 2 snakes to get their coolside better, tough i still can't understand why its an issue to have a cool side as low as that since the snakes have a warm side and they can switch from side to side regulating their temps. but if someone has a cheaper option other then the room heater and buying UTH and thermostat please tell me.

    Hi,

Do you have a thermostat on the warm ends at the moment?

You might be able to connect a second UTH via a dimmer switch to get the cool side right.

It might take a bit of tweaking to get it dialed in though.
