You don't have to. I feed roaches.
But as far as gutload for crickets/roaches/whatever I tend to either buy gutload from Jason @ The Roach Guy or Pro Geckos.. I recommend either. I also supplement with green veggies, some fruits, and grains. For moisture I usually use water crystal or potato.
