    Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)

Just got out of Avatar 3D. I've been waiting to look at this thread until I saw the movie. I just read allll of these posts and wow are there a lot of mixed and STRONG opinions!

Fantastic movie in my opinion. I thought the storyline was very engaging and although it was similar to other successful movies, I thought it was amazingly done. Even though I'm sure it would be a beautiful movie to see in 2D, IMO 3D is the only way to do it!

They're showing Avatar in IMAX 3D at the theater downtown (SF), and I'm dying to see it in that format... unfortunately it's been sold out since opening day, and for every possible showtime in the near future.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago, and loved it! The graphics were amazing, 3D was very cool, and the story line was captivating. I highly recommend it.

My mom wanted to see it so i took her. About the half way point when things started looking bad for the Na'vi my mom started crying. I can't believe how much my mom loved it. I've seen it 4 times now. Still my favorite movie

    Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)

Saw it this afternoon, and it's visually stunning for sure (even the "plain" non-3D version), but the plot was VERY predictable. The chief bad guy (the colonel/general/whatever rank he was) was completely 2-dimensional - nothing about him was interesting. The creature designs were hit and miss for me; I liked the Na'vi and the flying creatures, but most of the others were a bit too unimaginative to really seem alien. Those pack animals, for example, just look like someone peeled the skin off of a cat. My crested gecko says she really liked the Rhacodactylus helicopterus, though.

My girlfriend said something that I thought was pretty insightful afterward though; she thought it would have worked better as a TV series, because then the reasons behind people's actions could have been better fleshed out over time. The gunship pilot who was helping them, for example: why was she doing it, and why were there apparently no repercussions for her when she disobeyed a direct order by refusing to fire on the tree?

    Re: EEEK Avatar (thumbs down)

well, i finally saw it and i loved it.
i thought i'd hate it... i can admit when i'm wrong. the 'holes' in the story i keep reading about are not bad at all in my opinion. obviously a book or mini-series would have been much more in depth, but i'm glad this didn't turn into a 3.5 hour movie anyway.
