Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?

One time I stepped on a log while crossing a large puddle of water.

There was a fairly POed water moccasin underneath which bolted out, turned, struck at me in under 2 seconds (enough for me to almost fall in the water). It proceeded to advance towards me me for about 10 feet as I backed up as fast as I could with my heart racing.

    Oh Louisiana, fun times.

LOL!! That right there was hilarious. If an 8ft. snake was holding onto me and wrapped around my arm I'd be freaking out LOL, but that's just me. Being bit is something that I hate, but I've been bitten 5 times (3 from a Kingsnake I used to have.. mean little guy) and I still can't believe I can't handle it.. and it doesn't even hurt. I've had away to many close calls but I was so scared to get bit my handed jerked back faster than the snake can strike LOL.

Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?

Worst bite was at a friend's house. He had a 6-7 ft Retic and asked me to help him move the snake from one enclosure to another. He had the head and I had the rest. He tripped over a bucket, let go of the head and it came around and grabbed me. It coiled around my arm and started chewing. Most of my scars are gone except one. It's about 2 inches long. I probably needed stitches but I didn't get them.

As for my snakes, I've been bit more times than I care to admit, but luckily they were all from colubrids. The one that gave me the most concern was a large female Dumeril. She was very protective of her enclosure. Dums have some really long teeth and I can't tell you how many times she almost got me. Funny thing about her, once she was out of her enclosure, she was a kitty cat. She was a big Dum, almost 7 ft long. I wouldn't have wanted to get tagged by her, the Retic was enough for me.

Man that must've hurt badly! One of my fears is getting bit by a big snake, and my boa is going to get about 6ft long so hopefully he won't even try to bite me.

I used to have a Dumeril's boa, but she was only about a year and a half old, though, she didn't like me in her enclosure. She would hiss, and only strike if you gets real mad. Once she's out of her enclosure, she's as sweet as can be. Dumeril's boas are so strange sometimes

My pastel Sol has tagged me once and done the head butt thing on me a couple different times. He's just a really jumpy snake. I didn't raise him and I don't think he was handled much. He get's held 3-4 times a week. He's still jumpy as all get out but that's ok.

Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?

It hurt from the time the Retic clamped on until he let go. Then it really hurt. Had to put it in a sink full of water, then it took him 5 minutes to let go. You would think that if a snake can't breath, they would let go. Well that wasn't the case. The water was red from my blood. When I finally got to see my hand, I thought he chewed it off.

My worst herp experience by far.

    Damn, I bet.

People say "The strike is more shocking than the bite." but if it was your case it would be "The strike was least shocking than the bite." because a bite like that would be extremely shocking to me LOL.

Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?

To be honest, I never saw the strike. I guess I was watching the owner while he was falling over a 5 gal bucket. When my friend went down, I guess I squeezed the snake a little harder than when I was just carrying him. I guess the snake took it as aggression and whipped around and tagged me. At the same time it coiled around my hand and when I let go of the snake, it coiled around my forearm. That's really when i felt the bite. He was chewing on my hand. He had my thumb in it's mouth and had his teeth into the meaty part of my thumb.

Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?

About a month ago I had my adult corn snake around me neck/shoulders and I was talking to my boyfriend. Out of nowhere killer(who is usually very nice and calm) struck at his head. But his teeth only caught some of his hair. I thought it was funny.. my boyfriend didn't agree
