Re: What is it with people?!

This thread is confusing. First you rant about "people" in general, now you're coming out and saying that WE as a community aren't doing anything to help this hobby?

Maybe you should stick around alot more and see what this community really does. It does a hell of a lot more than what your post makes it seem you believe.

It is the "general idea" of people, and their individual influence on things.

Anyway... I've been around, and I still consider myself a rookie. I'm always asking questions, always learning something new.

But I've been in other online herp communities and have attended meetings with local herp organizations to only be a witness of some of the most hypocritical individuals around that shouldn't be a part of this herp-keeping hobby. Now, I'm speaking on what I have seen and heard, witnessed. Don't take it personal, it is simply an experience I have dealt with personally.

Having said that, I think this forum stands by what it is known to be and what it says it is without a doubt, the friendliest online community for all your herping needs.

You are absolutely right but there is not one person on the planet who has never had a double negative about something or been a hypocrite. I try not to complain too much because everyone else has the same complaints even if they do it too. We all have. Sure some are much worse than others but we are human. HUmans are programed by nature that way.

I do, you really got to take all the crud people do and then do something good. You gotta realize that you do have an effect on the world, minor though it may be, and you can make peoples lives better, plus it tend to earn you friends

I had faith in humanity until I moved here and started using San Francisco-area parking lots and parking spots. Now, ten dents and one scratch later, I know that everyone is a self-centered moron.

I do something positive for all. I park in the backmost spot in the parking lot. It prevents them from ignorantly banging my vehicle with their door as they yammer on their cell phone.. and it prevents them from having to hear me scream when they do.

how are we supposed to discourage illegal activity in the herp community? politely remind people that its illegal? people know if they get caught it makes us all look bad, but they obviously don't care if they're doing it in the first place. people wont ever change

They indeed do. I spent the first half of my life letting things go, letting by gone's be by gone's, not rocking the boat, but then I realized 99% of people let things go, which really sends the wrong message. If nobody gets called out for their crappy behavior, they think they can get away with it, and they do.

Nowadays, if I see stuff like that, I call them out, in public, so everyone sees it. And guess what, it works 99% of the time, and for those that want to take it to the next level, im game.

I know exactly what you mean, I live in the Bay Area also. I park in the back of lots for those reasons and because I can generally park and get to the door a lot faster than those lazy people who drive around looking for the closest spot.

Last week I came out to my truck, that was parked in the far back away from all other cars, and someone had hit it, taking out the passenger side headlight and ruining the fender and bumper. I called the police and they said with no note or witness there was nothing they could do, call my insurance company.... So my car was hit and run, I make a claim with my insurance company and my rate goes up. I do nothing wrong and everything right in this situation and it has a negative impact on me. What a terrible society we live in. I'd get pissed but what good would that do me.

I'm the exact same way. It started with thinking those thoughts. Then saying things under my breath. Finally stating loud enough for the person to hear it.

The scenario that always comes to mind is standing in line at the bank. Someone standing in front of you is tapping their feet and complaining how long it's taking, then they get to the window and aren't prepared for the transaction and take longer than the person they were complaining about.
