The same thing happened with me but with my Ball python, I put the live rat in she struck and got her own tail and wouldnt let go, finaly i got her off of herself and she left a toth in her tail.. But i put the rat back in and she ate it no problem

i had the smae issue with my Ball when he was a baby, bout 6 months old.
i however feed F/T, he was about to shed, so he did not have the best vision i assume, and missed the rat entirely and struck his tail, however he did latch on, he quickly let go, and within a minute he ate the Rat.


Bottom line, i wouldnt worry to much, im sure your snake can go an extra few days without the food, and by then im sure it will be hungry enough to scarf it down
