Will males lock even when they're not producing sperm?
Does anyone know or have experience with males that are not producing sperm? Will they still lock with a female even if they aren't producing sperm and/or plugs?
I paired my Lesser male when he was exactly one year old (mid-October). I thought I had popped part of a plug from him prior to the pairing, but I haven't been able to pop any more since. Then again, I'm not all that great at popping just yet.... He locked shortly after being introduced to my female normal, and he stayed like that (as far as I could tell) for over 24 hours. I've introduced them twice since and haven't caught any locks. I know I could just be missing the locks, and I know it's still early in the season. I'm just paranoid.
And no, I haven't tried putting in another male's shed and/or plugs yet. I'm not that desperate just yet. Hee. Plus, my only other plug-producing male is the Axanthic, and I would rather not pair him with her because I couldn't be 100% sure the offspring would be hets or not if I lose the morph lottery and get all normals.
