    Re: JCPs?

I think that since you put this in the morelia forum, you will get people who will be biased towards carpets... you should have posted this in the general herp forum because you have a range of species. If you had posted this in the ball python forum, the pastel might be winning right now... just saying

I voted albino wester hog because i think they are really cool looking I really do like pastel balls! Good luck deciding!

Ps. Does it really matter what any of us think you should get? Not tryin to be a jerk, but that is kinda a weird question, and never understood why people ask it. I can understand people asking which pattern over one or the other, but not between species.

Thats like asking what you should eat in the morning, and wear when you get up, ya know? You should be asking yourself what you should get.
True, but it's hard for me to decide lol. I was thinking more for a JCP, just not a nippy one. Me + nippy JCP does not work well at all lol. And I have done my research on JCPs before, I wouldn't just get a snake without doing the research. Actually, I did quite a lot of research on JCPs. I was looking more toawrd the JCP because I like having a different variety of snakes instead of having the same ones. Like, I have a King snake, Corn snake, Dumeril's boa, and a Western Hognose that I do not have more of. My BPs are the only snakes I have right now that I have more of (2) though I did plan on breeding next year. It's like experimenting for me, getting a variety of snakes and seeing which I like the most so I would continue purchasing that species.

All snakes can nippy. You just got to work with them. Undoubtedly though the juvies and hatchlings are the more flighty, but then they are small and your bigger then them and in their mind that means "predator." Just respect the snake and watch its movements and in return you will get a nice snake.

    Re: JCPs?

I would work with the snake if it did happen to be really nippy. I've worked with an aggressive snake before, and I am careful for the movements I make because sometimes I know fast movements startle snakes and then the snake will try to defend itself. I am still careful with my BPs because they sometimes get frightened when I make a fast movement, though, not so much my female BP.

    Re: JCPs?

Variety is the spice of life. I'm with you on that.

We have a JCP and LOVE him! We got him as a juvenile and he bit us MANY times before he calmed down (but no big injuries, just lots of "pin pricks"). Mostly, we had to be consistent and handle him every day or two. Once they reach sub-adult or adult size, about 5' and up IMHO, they calm down. But ours can still get pissy - like if you decide to change his water the day after you feed him instead of beforehand. He came up and flashed his open mouth at me saying, "Don't even think about handling me!"

All that said, JCP if you want to spend less, otherwise Jaguar ALL THE WAY if you have the dough. That is amazing that the price came down so much in the last two years. I held one of Will Bird's $1K Jag at Hamburg in February 2008. GORGEOUS!

    Have fun!

And a Pastel Ball python, and a boa constrictor

I can't ever make up my mind, but I would never regret purchasing the reptiles I did at the show. They are all excellent animals and wonderful eaters. Even through all the stress they went through (especially the Pastel and Beardie) on the day I got them they still had no hesitation to eat for me.

    Re: JCPs?

I find BP's pretty boring so if it was me I wouldn't get a pastel.

Western Hognoses are awesome everything you could want in a snake as far as personality goes but might be a too small of a snake for some. If you don't care about size then go for it! (an albino would be awesome to own!)

JCP= not too big not too small much more active and "fun", if you will, than a ball python but not as active as a Hognose. (maybe at night) And if you have the money for a jag, thats what I would get hands down.

BUT! ultimately its up to you.

    Good luck!

    Edit: I think im late
