Reptile Basics Rack Quitting on me

I have 3 Reptile Basics racks. 2 32qt racks and one 41qt rack. The 32qt racks are still working, though the locking pins that keep them neatly stacked have broken or were pulled out without my knowledge and they won't stack well. The 41qt stopped putting out heat around May (around the time Akina laid her eggs) and I unplugged it and plugged it into the other side of the thermostat's cord. It started working again. Now, several months later, it has stopped warming up again. The plug has not been messed with and all 3 racks are on the same thermostat. The 2 32qt racks are heating up just fine and are maintaining a good temperature. Any thoughts as to why the rack has stopped working? I am hoping to get a new one soon. I've moved everyone around so that everyone is in the 32qt rack (using dividers with the smaller snakes so they can share a tub). I got the rack in March of 2008.

Are you using the preinstalled flexwatt in your racks? It seems as if the heating element is shorting out, there could be a connection issue where the wires connect to the heating element. Have you checked all connections for and loose parts and or wires?

Yeah i was going to suggest this first and foremost but forgot Rich's name . They are actually located about and hour and a half from me, but their customer service is top notch and i know he would help solve the problem if not fix it.

Yeah I would call Rich. If the pins are missing without you knowing it maybe someone messed with the thermostat or heat tape.

I sent him an email about it. How do I check the connections? Isn't everything built into the rack?

Yes all the heat tape is built in but just do a visual check at all wires are tight and that there is no corrosion. It might be more worth your time to just call them up.

Re: Reptile Basics Rack Quitting on me

Luckily I know he is really fast at emailing back. I just got an email. He says to unplug everything from the other two racks and plug this rack directly into the wall to see if anything heats up. I'll have to try it tonight.
