Maybe if the other team owners spent money on the team and put less in their pocket, they could have a better chance of winning. Look at how much money the Steinbreners give to MLB. Just because they pay a lot does not guarantee they will win.

I think you need to look at the financial infrastructure of the marketability of franchises city to city.

...if it was capped, all franchises would have the same cap space to work with regardless of their market. When the NFL goes uncapped (unfortunately) you will see teams in the larger cities prosper, while small market teams such as Green Bay, Jacksonville, and so on will struggle...

I am sure the other teams would spend the same amount if it was possible. Being in such a huge city allows a massive amount of payroll flexability that other teams just don't have. You act like the smaller market teams owners are just rolling in profits. That is just not the case. Most usually are lucky to break even. Oh and the Steinbreners don't give that money to MLB out of the goodness of their hearts.

I am not saying a cap would not be a good thing. But even with the big salary they do have it took them 9 years to win another title. Just remember we where not the ones that started paying A-Rod 25million a year. Big salaries or not it does not guarantee a title.

    Salary caps are good!

I am just throwing this up there so others know what we are talking about...
On a side note, congrats to the Yankees, I really didn't care who won...I don't even watch baseball often because I think the sport being uncapped takes the strategy out of the game. Sure there is still strategy I know that...but I am talking about how a team decides on who and where to spend their money. When you have a bottomless wallet as the Yankees do...that strategy of how you allocate your payroll no longer exist...let's just buy everything! ...BORING.

No doubt the Yanks were the better team. I would just like to see how many championships they would have if there was a salary cap like every other sport. At least the phils can afford a pretty good payroll, but half the teams in the league are eliminated before the first pitch of the season is thrown. You do admit that the yankees are at a huge advantage over every other team due to the size of their city and the type of salary they can afford to carry right? Just last offseason they spent almost half a billion dollars on free agent contracts.
Its all in good fun, I promise.

I dont care about the salary caps or lack thereof. I enjoy sports for their entertainment value, and to see my hometown team dominate other teams is a source of entertainment. I agree with you completely, perhaps if baseball were capped then it might come down to the skill of the players that you have, not the skill of the players you can afford. But that's boring. Just my opinion.
