What does this mean...? (feeding question)

Okay so ive fed my baby bp(205g) about 5 f/t mice since i swiched her to them . but something weird happened the other day..

okay so she has eaten the mice in a separate tub out of her enclosure every time ive fed her, both live and f/t. but this feeding was a little aquard.

so i went through the usual thawing and blowdrying of the mouse to get it warm. closed the blinds so it was dark and didnt make any noise. i presented the mouse to her on the tongs and did the "zombie dance" that she usually likes. and after 15 minutes she didnt take it. she was just climbing out of the tub. i put her back in her enclosure and then presented it to her and she took it in a second.

    what does this mean?

She doesn't like eating in a strange location, and decided she was less hungry than she was annoyed at being moved?
(Most ball python keepers don't feed outside the regular enclosure).

Yep. I feed all 9 of my snakes in their tubs, and haven't ever had a problem with that... the stress of being moved before & after a feed is not good for them, IMO. Most others here will agree, as proven by former polls & discussions on this topic.

Balls stress easy. Moving them can pretty much make them not hungry anymore. Or they want to explore and find a place to hide.
The point is you want to stress them as little as possible.

It is more than okay, it's highly recommended.

5 Mice sounds like too much to me. Feed one weanling f/t rat once a week and that should be fine.

Re: What does this mean...? (feeding question)

I used to feed my BP outside his enclosure when I first got him. He started looking a bit uneasy after a while outside his enclosure when eating so after a couple weeks, I tried feeding him in his enclosure and noticed he seemed more comfy.

I've been feeding him in his enclosure ever since and never had any issues with biting or striking and have had much better feeding results.

I'd recommend feeding inside as well.

I think he meant to say he has fed her 5 times, so 5 f/t mice.

There is nothing wrong with feeding in the enclosure. cage aggression is non existent and ingesting a little substrate is not harmful.

LOL. I do feed one of my BPs 4 mice at a time, since she won't eat rats... but she weighs over 700g, so probably outweighs your baby by a lot.

Anyway, try feeding in the enclosure next week, and see what happens. If she still refuses, you might have to try live the following week... good luck!
