I been feeding my 2 youngest BP small rats since they were 350g or so, they are 500g and 525g now. Also if you are feeding live and your BP is around 350g~ ask to get the smallest small rat they have, that helped me alot =), Untill the BP grows bigger a bit.

Re: Is 440 grams a good size to start small rats?
hello
my question is I have a spider and a pinstripe that eat 1 small mouse a week after they eat never a lump in stomach does that mean the mouse should be larger? they both weight around 135 grams and were both born in april 2009.
I also have a pastel that wass born in Sept 2009 he weights 122 and also no lump after eating mouse should I go larger up to a medium mouse?
Also have a 1022 gram normal 2 year old or so. he eats 1 small rat a week is that enough? or should I maybe go to medium?
and I finally got my last pastel to start to eat these last 3 weeks 1 small hopper in a brwn bag will not eat any other way.But he only weights 66 grams but finally eating how long will I have to feed him in a bag how do I break him of bag feeding?

135g sounds kinda small for 6 months old. That, plus not seeing the bulge after they eat, points to feeding something bigger. The Medium frozen mice I got at Petco/Petsmart were only in the 14g-18g range, so a Small would be even less. 10%-15% of 135g = 13.5-20g, which is Medium/Large mice. My own little runt really grew when moved to Large (20g) mice.

My hatchling was born on July 12th and he weighs 187 grams and eats rat pups! I hope that helps as a guideline!

Re: Is 440 grams a good size to start small rats?
Update:
My 440g BP successfully took down a small rat weighing in at 61.5g. He had a bulge but lokked quite satisfied! It was 14% of his weight, so I suppose it was the right size. Any comments?

I just looked at him and it appears that the big ol' rat thrusted him into a shed. He is totally fogged!
