Hows this for a krazy question, is it possible to change barometric pressure?

I was daydreaming in class today and I was wondering if there was any way to replicate changes or adjust the barometric pressure in a room to spur on breeding. Any scientists out there? Feel free to tell me i'm outta my mind

Sure there is they use them to treat the benz in diver's..but they aren't cheap..It's called a hyperbolic chamber.

You would only be able to do that with a completely sealed off room, and a vaccum.

So technically, not really, without causing more harm than good.

As far as I know, you would need an air-tight chamber in order to pump air in or out. I would think that it would be impossible to maintain a constant pressure without suffocating the animals due to lack of air flow.

You may be able to introduce enough positive or negative pressure by either introducing air slightly faster than it can leave the container, or evacuating air slightly faster than it can enter the container (via a fan that can be flipped, for example), but I would think maintaining humidity would be tough, and I don't know that snakes appreciate a strong breeze.

I guess you could potentially control the pressure by hooking a progressive barostat (like a thermostat, but regulates pressure rather than temperature) to whatever is introducing the air, whether it be a fan or compressor or whatever.

Without spending big bucks, it would be noisy, expensive, inefficient, and potentially harmful to your snake. But it is definitely an interesting idea.

Re: Hows this for a krazy question, is it possible to change barometric pressure?

You would need an air tight cage, an adjustable pressure release valve that works in the range of normal atmospheric pressure (never heard of one of these but it should be possible although most likely expensive), and an air pump.

To lower pressure you have an air tight cage with the air pump setup to suck air out of the cage on the other side you put your pressure release valve. When the pump lowers the pressure in your cage below the selected pressure the pressure release valve will allow air into the tank. You run the air pump continuously to allow for air flow.

To increase the pressure you just flip everything around. So now you pump air into the tank and when the pressure gets to high the release valve lets air out.

I know in turbo car communities, people build these adjustable boost controllers out of every day parts. These are meant to control pretty high PSI (since they are used to control turbo pressures), but putting in an appropriately sized spring may work. Maybe. It's a thought anyway, and it's interesting. I'm not saying that you could get anything like this to ever work, but food for thought is always good .

Theoretically if you could ever get the spring resistance at the right threshold, you could pretty easily mount one of these onto whatever tank you were using and have it act as a blow off valve. I guess you could just reverse it (so that it "vents" inside the tank rather than outside) to create vacuum.

Re: Hows this for a krazy question, is it possible to change barometric pressure?

    It's entirely possible.

The 'best' way I can think of is making the cage be a vacuum chamber (I assume you're lowering pressure, since you are interested in stimulating breeding).

It would get tricky to get good airflow to prevent stagnation and provide oxygen, but you could do it.

Also the motors driving the vacuum for vacuum chambers can get kind of annoyingly loud if you have to run them often.

These are great ideas I can kinda imagine building a sealed cage that has adjustable pressure, you just put your pair in there and drop or raise the pressure and you could breed year round, theoretically. You would think every breeder would want one.
