Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?

The only thing that REALLY bothers me personally on the forums is when someone gets smart with me in a post or gives me a smart aleck remark when it is uncalled for. Joking around is 100% fine but trying to be rude or ignorant towards me when it is not justified is about the only thing that really bothers me...

    YES!!!

Me: " 'Is my normal a morph?' is a newbie thread"
Them: "well I'm not a newbie so don't assume that I don't know anything about BP morphs"

Some people are just ignorant, and some people just want to make everyone else feel as pitiful as they are.

Oh and when people argue and argue with you even though they have nothing to back up their claims.

And finally when a newbie asks a question and highly active users have very rude comments or advice. There's no need for that! Is this not a site 'devoted to helping the new herp keeper'? The "friendliest one" in fact? I always find myself PMing those newbies who received very rude comments as soon as they joined and telling them this is a great site and I have no idea why so and so found it necessary to make such and such comment. *sigh*

    Interesting.

Rather hubric of you and somewhat unappreciated by me.

    Heh.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

By the way it's hubris or hubristic in that case

And it's not so much self pride as it is pride for this website. Like I said there is no need for self proclaimed experts to be rude to newbies because they don't have time to answer such a petty question. This site was created for newbies and if you scroll to the top of every page it says, and I quote "the friendliest online community for all your herping needs". If we're rude to someone right off the bat we're going to lose members. This site has a lot to offer and I'd hate for someone to leave when they need advice just because someone took the time to be rude.

I often make up words that suit my needs.

I must have missed the election that put you in your position of Politeness Enforcer.

I will kindly ask that should you think I have been rude to someone, you keep you butt out of my business. I almost always have reasons for what I do and I have no intention of explaining them to those, like yourself, who do not approve of them.

When one of the Red or Green names has an opinion, I will do my best to acquiesce, but short of that, I do take offense at people going behind my back to alter what I have written/said.

Do it in public if you want to disagree with me, or anyone for that matter.

Sneaky people are not to be trusted.

People who pm other people about yet other people, but don't let the people they're pm'ing about know, are sneaky.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?

Having been a better member on some forums than on others, I find that the older I get the less things actually annoy me. Especially online.

Search functions, noob question, what morph should I get... read it or don't, respond or don't.

    We all have agency.

But I would agree with Judy. I think as staff we get to wander around picking up the messes, but if we have an opinion as members, then it cannot be just that. It becomes an oligarchal conspiracy and that gets really old, really fast.

Other than that arrogance, rudeness and petty tyranny.

Being a noob myself, I think I would appreciate it if someone reached out privately to me after I was just bashed for asking a stupid question. I'm sure some have rolled their eyes at my ignorance. If I was publicly bashed I would be very tempted to leave the forum fearing that the remark is representative of the membership. Happily, I have received nothing but constructive advise from members of this forum and I am grateful for it. Responding in private shows discernment. Rebutting someone in public for their attitude is just going to start one of those threads where everybody just bashes each other and feels they have a God-given right to get in the last word. These threads don't do anybody any good.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?

The third person writing does get annoying. It might be funny once, or once in awhile, but to write everything in third person just screams attention deprived.

People that buy their animals at the big chains, and think everything they were told by the 17 yr old kid working there is fact, and not to be disputed.

People who ask the most basic questions, AFTER they have purchased the animal they are asking about. Examples: What does a Ball eat, and can I feed it crickets? A Burmese Python only gets 3 feet long, right? My Blood Python will only grow to the size of his 20 gallon tank right?

Asking if this is a morph without posting a picture, and just describing the snake! Asking if this is a morph with the worlds worst picture. Asking if this is a morph, without saying why you are asking if it is a morph. If you are going to ask if your new snake that you bought as a normal for 20 bucks is a morph, tell us why you are asking, and what you think it might be!

People that think they are bigger than the forum, that if they do not post their opinion on EVERY thread, somehow, everyone else will suffer. People that try to make every thread about themselves. People that look down on everyone else, just because they are over 40 and have a job---even if it is a minimum wage job and they still live in their mom's basement...where, ironically, they are NOT allowed to have any reptiles but an Anole. This Anole keeper will however, feel it is their duty to tell everyone else how to keep their Balls, Boas, etc.

People who post like they are texting.

Re: What gets your Goat on the forums?

What gets me? Ignorance. Plain and simple. I can deal with stubborn well and good. I just say... well.... colorful words, and move on my way, I dont care that much! And i CERTAINLY dont give two hoots about some yahoo that talks to "Insert name dropping name here" who heard this and that, about that and that. Pshaw. You go on and do it your way. Im gonna do it my way, and well see how things turn out!

I hardly do anything "by the book." Im stubborn and i have my opinions, and personal experiences thus far, and thats how things will remain!
I "LOVE" when people try to tell me differently, or those who have FAR more experience than them that things should be done whatever way they say it should, yet ive been taught, and i learned by who I feel are some of the best. You can take your textbook regurgitation and put it wherever makes you feel happy!!!
