My local walmart has a pretty crappy selection of everything and the only kind of small containers they have are clear sterilite ones. I was just wondering if coloring the outside of them with a black sharpie would be a good idea or bad. Sharpies are nontoxic but the smell would probably remain after it's all colored and dry.

Anyone have any experience with this or should I just go buy actual hides from a pet place?

Most pet storers carry those small hamster hides which are pretty easy to clean and durable. There are many different sizes and they are only a few bucks. You can use any kind of plastic container and just cut a hole into the side of it.

yeah like the last response any plastic container with a hole cut out will suffice, you may want to make sure its an opaque one to add for security, im sure ur wally world has some containers that arent clear, just make sure you round off the cut out edges with a file or something

Check the dollar store if you have one. They tend to have cheap plastic bowls.

When I made my hides out of plastic bowls, I have found that a lighter smoothed the sharp edges alot faster and with alot less effort. Just my 2 cents.

yah just use a dog waterbowl.. flip it over and cut out a hole.. using a lighter to melt the sharp edges or a large wood file

Maybe my post was confusing... Cutting a hole and making the edges smooth isn't a problem, the containers are clear though. I colored them with black sharpie. I haven't put them in with my snake yet because I didn't know if the sharpie smell would be harmful.

If drawing with a sharpie for a long time irritates my nose then I am sure it would be irritating to a snake that can smell a million times better than I can.

dude.. that smell is terrible.. they sell good sized, sturdy dog bowls at walmart for exactly $6.77.. not to shabby
