    newb questions

hey everyone. whats happening? my names Andrew from the NH and i was asked to take ownership of a normal BP in which they say is a male about 2 years old and I've measured him at just over 2 feet. mind you I dont know much about the growth process of snakes, so I'm just going by what they told me. I've been a member, just reading threads for about a month know and i just want to know if this is an adequate set up for this dude. its a 55 gal tank, there's is a under tank heater, humidity gauge is about 50 temp in the day is 80/night 70, two hides one half log and an old hat he has grown very fond of. large water dish and a big vine to hang on. also he did shed about a week ago in full piece but just seems really finicky and stressed out still and I'm not sure what to do. I handle him every time i have a chance which is usually in the evenings almost every day. i feed him 1 mouse saturday at noon the mouse is about the size he is around, also he did shed about a week ago in full peice but just seems really finnicky and stressed out still and im not sure what to do. im not completely ignorant with general reptiles i have an iguana that turns 8 this month so im sure i can manage this guy i just need some direction. Such as figuring out gender, when to switch to rats. any input would be great, thanks

first, cage should be a 20 gallon.

second, lose the half log, and don't know about the hat.

third, temp should be 90 24/7 on 1/3 of the cage, about low 80s the rest of the cage.

fourth, my bp is also just over 2 feet and is on small rats. It all depends on how big around the biggest part of his body is.

fifth, take him to a vet to get him/her sexed.

six, welcome to the forum! we're glad to have you.

P.S. One forum rule: If you're a new member, you MUST post pics!!!

    Hi,

    Welcome to the site.

Have a read over the caresheet - it will give you a feel for how we generally recommend doing things.

Two feet sounds quite small for a two year old snake - can you get us a weight on him?

thanks for the pointers. i can put pics up soon. and i as well think he should be a little fatter than what he is ill see what i can do about a scale to weigh him out with. and the care sheet was very helpful as well. im pretty sure the previous owners didnt really take care of him that well so im doing my best.
