What kind of stat was it? Luxpro makes a decent one that comes set at a default of 80 degrees. If you forget to turn it off it will automatically go back to 80.

Re: Oh Snap moment, t-stat failure
I had a thermostat fail on me that was controlling a stack of animal plastic cages in summer 07 that killed him

I came home from work and went to water everyone and he was dead and I had two other snakes that were almost dead but they survived

Aw, that really sucks Denial - he was a pretty boy. But Prophet, I'm glad your snakes are okay! I often hear of people using back-up thermostats, so how exactly does that work? Are they plugged into each other, or what??

The t-stat that failed was his central heating/AC for the apt.
To answer you question though. To back up your t-stats...
-Plug UTH into t-stat A
-Plug T-stat A into T-stat B
-Place both probes on UTH
-Set T-stat A to 91deg, set T-stat B to like 96deg.
You can also use a dimmer to back-up your thermostat...
-Plug UTH to dimmer. Set dimmer so UTH maintains about 96deg.
-Plug dimmer into T-stat and set t-stat to 91deg.
Or, you can just buy the Double Ranco's which are already wired to back each other up...
