I usually do this. But my mojave girl wasn't showing any interest until I paired them with her hide in the tub. Then she locked right up, but in the hide of course. I guess she just wanted more privacy.

That's what I do as well - no hides in the female's tubs during breeding season. Those that are usually shy will just get under the paper and make their own hides.

i have a similar question. Both my big girl and spider male have the same type of hide. All my snaked have hides. When i start to put the male in the female's tub should i remove the females hides?

Re: Breeding with balls who usually have hides.
I usually remove hides when pairing my snakes. I find the hides just give them a reason to avaiod each other.
I have a male Black Pastel that thrashes around and acts like a tough guy when introduced to the females then overnight he usually locks them up. Just boys being boys
Your young spider will get the idea after a few visits. I find the real young males dont lock for very long and I usually never catch them in the act but know they locked because I get eggs.

Wow, those should be some exciting additions! I loved the Netherlands when I visited, btw... spent just a week there (Amsterdam & countryside on the way to Belgium), but I've been wanting to go back ever since. Beautiful place with some awfully friendly people.

When you put the males back to their cages (still during breeding season), do they still have hides?
