Ok im going to run to the hardware store/tractor supply plus in the morning and grab on from there. I got the temp down to 89ish for the time being. So I'm not going to change the temp in my house. Hope every things ok in the morning.

Hi,

How are you making sure the humidity doesn't affect the heatmat? Water and electricity make me nervous.

It's only really recommended to use sealed boxes for the eggs and have the rest of the setup dry if your using a heatmat as far as I know.

I realise you are battling uncontrolled temps at the moment but I really wouldn't have poked any holes in the box either for an incubator.

It might be a good idea to actually look up some plans for cooler incubators or fish tank incubators and start from scratch. Cooler incubators are probably better but you might be able to find the parts to a fish tank incubator easier depending on the stores you have around you.

If you can't get a thermostat quickly then you could try a dimmer but it is really not recommended because of the fluctuations in temp.

My question would be how are you controlling temperatures for your snakes if you don't have a thermostat? Heat pads generally operate in the 105 - 108 degree range and can easily burn your snakes. They need a thermostat too, for safety.

not being mean or any thing but y do I need a thermostat for my snake for any under tank heater? i thought snakes have a built in thermostat? as long as you heat the item be for you put it in... that way they don't lay on it and the body temp raises with it and they get burnt. Oh and I love my snake but shes no prize snake so little marks are not a big thing. any was, I just don't have a lot of money, the eggs are do 2 weeks after my baby is due. and I AM NOT going into WHY I WAS TRYING TO HAVE EGGS AT THE SAME TIME IF I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THEM. so lets not go there. as for the holes in foam its my only way to keep the temp down or it would be 110 degree in there. I will be waking up every 2 hours to check the temp.

So you think it's ok because little burn marks don't bother YOU because she's "no prize snake". How about maybe not wanting to burn your snake because it's an animal that you have chosen to be responsible for all aspects of it's life? How are you measuring your temps? They don't regulate their own heat, they are ectothermic. That means that they only get as warm or as cool as their environment. They don't have an internal thermostat. Have you ever read a caresheet? I have to ask these questions as I really don't understand how anyone would assume care of an animal without knowing how to properly care for it.

A pet is a pet. You took responsibility of her when you took her into your care, that means you provide proper care for her.

Ball pythons do not create their own heat so they seek it from outside sources. They also are kept in a small enclosure so if that heat source you provide gets too hot for them they cannot leave that enclosure to seek cooler temperatures.

They seek a basking spot close to 90 degrees and ambient temperatures need to be around 80 degrees.

Standard heating mats range from 105 - 110 degrees (as you found out with your incubator) and that is far too hot for them to regulate properly. Get a thermostat for both the snake and the incubator and you will find that your pet is much healthier and happier, and that your incubator qorks more effectively.

turned into utter disgust for someone who doesnt care about "little marks" because it is not "a prize snake"
