I think you know what he means.
Noise is in fact, vibrations traveling through the air. But the only vibrations snakes "hear" are the ones coming from the ground. Like a predator walking up to it to maybe try and eat it. The snake would feel the vibrations of the predator's feet on the ground.
If the noise is loud engough, the room will shake, just like subwoofers in a car. (You know, the noisy teenagers that make the ground shark when you pull up near their car.) That is when snakes will start to be stressed by "noise"
