Question about Pieds

I hope this dosen't sound stupid but I am still fuzzy on the ressesive gene thing I have a male Pinstripe and I wanna pick up a female pied. my question is I know potentially half the of the offspring will be pin but none will be pied correct??? They would be hets, but if I breed back to the pin what precentage will be pied or if I breed back to the pied female what potential precentage would be pied?? I thank you in advance for the feedback as I breed Tarantulas and scorpions primarily so snake genetics are kinda new to me....Matt

Pied X Pin = Pins het for Pied and Het pieds

Pin Het pied X Pied = Het pieds, Pieds, Pins Het pied and Pin Pieds.

Pin Het Pied X Pin = Pins 50% het pied, normals 50% het pied.

There is enough genetic material out there now that breeding offspring back to the parent animal for something as common as a pied morph... that you would do best to introduce different blood after that first breeding. That is responsible breeding, and something you should seriously consider if you intend to breed these animals.

Yes, you would get Normals and Pins, Het for Pied. Those that you wanted to hold back, you would breed back to a pied, or het pied.

I agree totally I was just trying to keep my questions simple I would of course have several bloodlines going I was just trying to get a better idea of the science behind genetics thanks for the reply Matt

Why do you feel it wouldn't it be responsible to line breed after a single generation? Technically, as long as the sire wasn't from the same bloodline as the dam, you already have introduced different blood during the first breeding.
