Heterozygous X Normal will result in offspring that are considered 50% possible hets.

Red Axanthics are codom, so you would be able to visually differentiate the "hets."

You would have to breed a pied or albino to a normal to produce hets, then breed the het offspring back to the pied or albino parent.

Het. Red Axanthic x Normal - Since Red Axanthic is a Co-Dominant gene, "Het Red Axanthics" differ visually from both Red Axanthics and from Normals. Because of this you can tell which ones are Heterozygous for the Red Axanthic gene (carrying only one allel for the gene) and which ones are completely normal. From that pairing, each egg has 1/2 chance of being a Het Red Axanthic and a 1/2 chance of being a Normal.

As above, each baby will have a 1/2 chance of inheriting the allel for the gene, making them Het, and a 1/2 chance of missing the odds and being completely normal. Since Albino is a recessive gene, Heterozygous animals do not differ from Normals since the Normal gene is dominant over the single recessive allel. Because of this, all resulting offspring from a Het Albino x Normal pairing will appear Normal. Since you won't know which are Het and which are Normals, all resulting offspring should be labled as "50% Possible Het for Albino".

In order to produce the Homozygous form of a gene (such as Albino and Pied), a hatchling needs to receieve an allel for that gene from both parents. The minimum pairing to produce a Pied or an Albino would be Het Pied x Het Pied or Het Albino x Het Albino. Animals that are Heterozygous for a recessive gene (such as Pied or Albino) carry the gene for the trait, but appear normal since they only have one allel for the recessive mutation. The allel for "Normal" is dominant over the single allel for the recessive gene.
In a Het to Het pairing, each egg has a 1/4 chance of being the Homozygous form (Albino, Pied, etc.), 1/2 chance of being the Heterozygous form (Het Pied, Het Albino, etc.), and 1/2 chance of receiving no mutated gene and being completely normal. Since the Normals and Hets will all appear normal in recessive mutations, all "Normal" appearing offspring from a Het x Het pairing are considered "66% Possible Het" for the mutation.

thanks just triying to learn the ropes. It has been a life long interest in breeding snakes and 2 weeks ago I talked my wife into it. I have a female normal right now but I am trying to figue out what 2 more females I need and 2 males. I will more than likely just keep my female normal as a pet. and look into some morphs. I dont know if my normal is het or what genes she has but she is real light. here is a pic link below.

I have a little experience with incubation from chamelions to speckled king snakes, none in morphs.
any sugestions for what would be good starter collection morphs would help? Not in it to make money just to produce beautiful colors that arent seen often.

Your female looks normal to me. If you'd like to produce albinos or pieds, you'll have to have atleast a het pair for either one; you won't be able to get any out of a normal.

If you are interested in the Red Axanthic mutation, I would recommend purchasing a het red axanthic male to pair with your normal female. Het red males are inexpensive and you would be able to visually identify the offspring from the het to normal paring.
You would then have a pair of het red axanthics that you could breed together to make full Red Axanthics. the line/inbreeding for this end goal would be considered relatively safe as the original parents were unrelated. This is generally how every mutation has been reproduced from original wild caught mutations.
