    Ewwww...That Smell...

Even though I completely clean my tanks and change substrate weekly I have noticed that there is that funky smell that seems to constatly be there no matter how much I clean. I was looking at this deodorizer called Healthy Habitat. Does anybody use this regularly or have you tried it in the past and not had any results with it?

On the same note. A guy I work with said he uses Febreze to deodorize his RTB tanks. He lightly sprays it in the tank and on the furnishings and waits till it dries before putting the snakes back in. He said that it was recommended on another forum and also he hasn't had any ill effects. My response was," I understand the thought process because it does eliminate odors. And you may not have had any side effects yet, but what about latent or long term effects?" He didn't have and answer. So my second question is, Febreze?...

I appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or recomendations on Healthy Habitat or any other deodorizer I could use...

there are some natural deodorizers out there, i saw some online that u can spray WHILE the snake is in the tub / tank. just make sure u disinfect the tub AND the rack. it helped eliminate the smell of fresh, humid poopy in my tubs =D

I wouldn't spray anything in the tank/tub with the snake in it. Why would you want to do that?

you might be missing some poop on a hide or in a crevice in the tub or something.

i use news paper as substrate and everyone has at least 1 hide (the bigger ones have RBI hides or something similar) and smaller animals have black plastic bowls.

make sure you clean everything. I use the natural green cleaner that i found at target to clean snake enclosures. the smell is very mild and i make sure its dry before putting a snake back in (it also gets wiped out, its not a leave-in type cleaner).

I have no poop smell, even after BIG fresh ones.

There should be 0 smell once you get done cleaning. I use chlorexidine and water mix to clean my tubs. once I'm totally done the whole room smells like it no poop what so ever..

If your smelling something funky then there's either something your missing or.. the enclosure has been soaked with "Whatever" and so no amount of cleaning will ever get it out.

As for Febreeze.. I'm not willing to risk my animals with it but that's up to you. My vote is no!

My snake does not smell at all. After a few feedings there will be a slight smell of rodent but by that time its time to change the substrate anyway. You must be missing something.

i just use wipe out tho. it gets the smell out of the enclosures, and it doesnt smell like gross disinfectant when im done cleaning. just smells like plastic tub and paper towels XD
