    The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

    Hey all,
I wanted to know how this would sound and I need to know what else I will need.

HUGE tub from walmart as tat.
repti-carpet (one side) EE (other side)
maby peices of drift wood for climbing ex.
1 HUGE half log and 2 large half logs for hiding.
and i would feed it a mouse a week then 2 when it gets bigger

I am going to buy a female Ball Python. Is there anything else, I will need? My room stays about 60* in winter should i have lamps on over her tat? Thankssssssssssssssssssss

Re: The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

this is what I would do.

    Buy the following

    20 gallon tank
piece of plexi glass(covers half of the tank to aid in holding humidity)
    aspen bedding
zilla thermostat (if your buying everything at petco)
    20gal zoo med heat pad
    Water Dish
Some kind of hide (not a half log because they are too exposed)
A piece of drift wood if you like
    20 galon top/clips

that would cover pretty much all of your bp's needs, but it sounds like you would need a heat lamp over the tank during winter. 60 is wayyyyyyyy to cold, you need to at least keep it at 75. Good-Luck buddy!

Re: The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

Half logs are not adequite (sp?). They are too exposed and do not makee the snake feel very secure. You mentioned you got one "HUGE half log" which is even more worse because it is even more open than a smaller one.

Snakes like to touch all sides of the side and have it be dark. Besically, the smaller the better.

Re: The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

O.o thanks, that was helpful soooo what I would have.

LARGE TUB (rubber maid?)((With lid with holes)
    ton of drift wood
Rock Cavern hidey thingy from Petstore (made for snakes)
    really small half log
    Aspen Bedding(3 inches deep)
an over head heater (will keep it at 80*F easily.
    humidity/temp gadge
(Humidity would be high likes say anywhere from 60% - 80% lolz)

anything else I need? how dose it sound? And last question.

I know it soounds stupid, but is it okay, if the tank (and snake) gose under my bed at night (to prevent me from tripping over it)((if not would my closet be a good 2nd choice?

MAy I ask why it needs to be on the floor or the closet?? Space issues?? Also use an under tank heater (UTH) like this http://www.petco.com/product/6353/Zo...pAmpFC_Heating with one of these to control the temperature. http://www.strictlypetsupplies.com/_...0-R-Thermostat

You can use lamps but they make keeping humidity consistent a bit tricky. Oh yeah and you want the ambient to be about 80 with one side of the tank being high 80's. 89-90.

LARGE TUB (rubber maid?)((With lid with holes)Nah get one the right size for the snake instead
ton of drift wood Probably not needed
Rock Cavern hidey thingy from Petstore (made for snakes) Get two of these small enough to be snug for her
really small half log Don't bother getting this at all
Aspen Bedding(3 inches deep) You don't need it that deep
an over head heater (will keep it at 80*F easily. ) I'd recommend a UTH and thermostat instead
humidity/temp gadge Get the digital acurite one from walmart at $12
(Humidity would be high likes say anywhere from 60% - 80% lolz)

anything else I need? how dose it sound? And last question. Get clips or some other way top hold the lid on tight

I know it soounds stupid, but is it okay, if the tank (and snake) gose under my bed at night (to prevent me from tripping over it)((if not would my closet be a good 2nd choice? I'd go with putting it in one place and leaving it there if at all possible

Re: The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

The others have already advised on your setup plans, but I have another question... how old of a snake are you getting, and from where? If you're getting a baby, start with a small 10gal tank or 12-15qt tub - and 20gal/41qt is fine for an adult.

Re: The Upcoming Tank (Christmas 2009)

Also, get a space heater for your room. Or find another room that is warmer than 60 degrees to keep your snake in. Sixty degrees is far too cold, and lamps suck humidity out of your enclosure. .
