I've heard that there is a strain of pieds out there that always produce high white pieds. Joe, do you or anyone else know of any proof of that or is it just a marketing ploy?

Low white can throw high white and high white can throw low white. Its all random.

I'm not trying to be secretive or anything.....I just don't have a great answer for you. Do I know of a line or group of animals that ALWAYS throws high white animals? Nope. Do I think it is possible? Yep.

ALWAYS is a big word. For me to say that a pair of pieds (or a group of pieds.....which would make things easier.....and quicker ) ALWAYS throws high white offspring, I'd need to see numbers. Fifty is a good number to start....maybe a small number but a good one to start with....100 would be better. For a pair to pop out 50 pieds it could be 7 or 8 seasons but probably longer. A group would speed things up but still it takes time.

Right now, the amount of white sure SEEMS random.

I know it sounds ridiculous when you look at all the morphs popping out and the variety of animals for sale.......but line breeding and selective breeding is still in its infancy as far as bps are concerned. (just my opinion of course)

When it comes to pieds, Pete Kahl would really be the guy to ask. Unlike most breeders, Pete has put up the numbers when it comes to pieds.
Has he been breeding for high white or low white? If so, has he followed through a few generations? What kind of numbers? All questions that I don't know the answers to.

If you had asked me your question three or four years ago, I would have said something like, "No way......the amount of white is completely random." Because that was what I was told. Now I find myself questioning everything I thought I knew about bp genetics. I don't even think pieds are recessive anymore........but that is another can of worms.
