    Locking and bowel rapping

I have two confused female balls. One was locking with my pastel off and on for a while, she is bowel rapping but still eating. So could she be gravid? The other girl suddenly got the hots for my male pastel. I put them together and was going to sepreate them when they stopped locking. Well they haven't stopped "getting it on" Should I leave him in there till I can find a time when they are not locked? I don't know when/if these girls are going to lay but if they do I will have 2 nice clutches of pastels

Part of her confusion might be that there is a BOWEL in her cage try putting a BOWL in.

    Re: Locking and bowel rapping

I was very mislead by this title. Locking and rapping kinda go together, not sure where the bowels fit in. Odd visual images though thats for sure.

As for "bowl wrapping"...it could be a sign, sure. Watch for a swell, followed by a shed in the near future, probably a pre-lay shed. That being said, bowl wrapping is not a guarantee by itself, some snakes just do it, or do it when its too hot in their enclosure.

And yeah, waiting until they aren't locked up to separate them, I'm not sure what the alternative is, but I wouldn't think you want to separate them when they are locked up.

    Re: Locking and bowl rapping

Sorry for the the spelling error. I stink at spelling and "bowl" just didn't look right.
As for the locking I was told you could spray water on the locked snakes to make them unlock, but I don't really know if it is a good idea.

I am just a bit confused as I thought the breeding time was over and we where just getting into the end of hatching season.

Yeah, if your trying to get your female gravid, you should probably wait for them to separate by themselves. If you spray water on them or make them separate by any means, he may not get the job done. Let them do their thing

Forget getting the job done, if they are sprayed and jerk apart in different directions, he may lose his equipment. OUCH

Yeah, Angela I would double check the spelling on your titles.....I have been trying to get the many visuals of snakes trying to "bowel wrap" (whatever that might be)outta my head!! But, yes bowl wrapping is an indicator of eggies on their way!

    Re: Locking and bowel rapping

You know, I can't spell worth a darn also.
I have been doing a lot of studying, and watching my balls. It seams they are not temperature triggered to breed. I have a debate going on with Sean Niland from VMS that it is feeding or humidity triggered. If you watch them they will start a feeding frenzy and eat a lot. This seams to start the follicles growing. I have had females lay eggs in November. If they want to do it let them, you will never know what or when you get eggs.

I can be but I had 4 females lock with some assorted males of mine. All of them went off feed and wrapped but only one became gravid and gave me a clutch. Only way to know for sure is a nice big ovy and some eggs in the end lol.
