My yellow is a female, 3 yrs. old, around 10 foot and lives in an 8x4x2. She has a large tub for soaking, good hides and is never in the same place for very long. She's a sweetheart to handle and is absolutely gorgeous.

If you have an RTB, I see no reason why not to get a yellow. They can be nippy at the start but regular handling will get them out of that.

Good luck, and definitely buy a neonate.

As for the monitor/tegu, they are ultra cool and much more work intensive than any snakes.

Actually my recommendations aren't too small. For starters, he's getting a male, a male won't get 10 foot. I've seen people on here that keep 12-13 foot retics in a smaller tank then that.

Just because someone keeps 12-13 foot retics in tiny enclosures (a real no-no for a semi-arboreal like retics in my book), doesn't make it right.

As I stated, my yellow is quite active in her enclosure and you're only going to have a happier captive if you go "above and beyond". Just because something can survive in a tiny space doesn't mean it should.

I never said it was ok that they keep a 12-13 foot retics in small enclosures. I said people do it. Don't jump to conclusions.

Yes your yellow is happy, the cage size I recommended is fine for a male Yellow Anaconda. That's the only point I was making. You have a female, so yes naturally you're going to need a bigger setup then somebody who's housing a male.

    i agree with Neal.
i have a 4 ft Boaphile for my yellow when it gets adult size.
the enclosure needs to be a MINIMUM of 1/3 the body length.

Yellows dont need to soak so having a pool is unnecessary.
they are easy to keep, if you watch humidity.

and be ready to get bitten.

Thanks. Yellow's aren't Greens so they don't spend nearly anything close to the time that a green spends in the water. I keep a good size water bowl for my yellow to go in if "she" wants, but I don't really ever see her there.

You made sopme good points on this thread neal. I have a yellow myself, roungly 18 inches long, a right little bugger but lovely snake all the same. Enclosure size doesnt need to be as big as people think. Yellows do not soak as much as greens, so your reccomendations are perfect. Only thing i would change woud be for an adult female yellow, id go for a 6 x 3 x 2. but as u say, it all depends on how big they are round.
