Using a LARGE UTH on a SMALL tub??

So this might be a silly questions but I just wanted to be sure.

Using a large ultratherm (the 11"x17" model) on a small tub so that the UTH spills over the edges of the tub won't have any ill effects on anything, right?

Right now I'll be using a hatchling sized tub and I definitely don't want to buy a UTH for each tub size upgrade.

As long as you got a thermostat on it and set to the correct temperature, it should be fine.

if your using tubs order flexwatt. its chepaer to run in racks than paying $17+ for a heating pad.

I have a grand total of 2 tubs right now so ultratherm UTHs are the way to go for me now. But eventually I'll get some racks set up with heat tape.

Ultratherms really arent the best way to go with tubs. Their too expensive. all you need is enough to cover one side with flexwatt. costs me $4 per tub in flexwatt and i solder them my self.

Once you get into flexwatt heating pads from stores become obsolete.

Just make sure whatever UTH you are using is both controlled by a tstat or rheostat and does not cover more than 1/3 of the total floor area of the enclosure.

if you need it i have 5ft of flexwatt i can give you for $10 shipped. one is already wired up ready to go. the others are 2 19" pieces and another 13" piece that needs wiring.

Yes, I'll definitely have a tstat controlling it.

This set up is actually for a Borneo short tail python so I plan to keep the entire tub at an ambient of 82F with no basking spot per Kara Glasglow's advice.
