Re: How many???
it will vary from one person to another. Some peoples asf produce a lot of big litters, some may have small litters. Or you could be all over the place like mine
I would say start off with a higher number of trios than you need and then thin out the trios until you find the right number
If i was in your position i would probably start with 3 trios and take it from there

Re: How many???
Right now I have three groups producing and six in total. The three are enough to feed my males sometimes, I'm thinking I might need 10 groups we'll see.

Re: How many???
jeez how many are you getting per litter
i just re did the count and 6 would work if the groups produced the average. but that is in a perfect world or with domestic rats it would work out smoother
10 sounds good you can always thin them out if you produce too many

Have you noticed that out of the 3 girls in a group 2 are consistenly breeding and the other female only helps?

Re: How many???
When figuring out this kind of equation I always figure 1.2 groups.... figuring an average of 8 babies per female per month... This equation works very well considering MANY different factors. So my best guess would be to set up 7 trios... and you will know for sure that you will reach a point where you will consistently have enough feeders every week. Takes time to build it up though with all the grow outs and new breeders and stuff... probably 4 to 6 months or so.
I would also recommend an 8th tank for courting of future breeders. once they are prego, retire the oldest trio of breeders and move the new ones in... then repeat. This will keep your oldest breeders from getting to old.

I am going to buy some of these critters today. It is better to have 1.2 and not 1.3?

Re: How many???
I have (5) 1.3 going, started with (2) 1.3 in march, but quickly learned it wasn't enough, I have 15 snakes & counting

1.2 will have better production. This may not be the case in every situation, but It certainly is in MY experience.
