Re: Do you read? Favourite Books...

Do I read??? It's simply what I do!

I have too many books that are favorites to list, but I can mention a few. Mostly I shall list book series.
Oh, and the Stand is awesome. I have the uncut edition and can remember taking it to high school every day for a week in a rolling bag. But my favorite King novel is 'Eyes of the Dragon' Anyway...

Harry Potter (I've read #1 about 10 times, then on down to #7 twice)
DragonLance - mostly the originals by Weiss/Hickman.
Xanth - Piers Anthony. 1-7 are the best.
Myth - Robert Asprin. TOO good!
Phules Company. Robert Asprin. Also very awesome.
Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold! - Terry Brooks. Cute series.
    Anything by James Harriot.
Jeffery Deaver - especially his Lincoln Rhyme series (I know, what a switch)
And of course, I still love Walter Farley's Black Stallion series, and Bonnie Bryant's The Saddle Club books.

There are others, of course, but those are the top of the list.

Reading, sewing, building, and caring for animals are my favorite things!
    **Adriana - White 'N Nerdy!**

If anyone likes PI books I would highly recommend The Camel Club books by David Baldacci. I started reading them and have been hooked ever since.

Re: Do you read? Favourite Books...

My problem with the "Dark Tower" books is, that I have got the feeling S. King started to write it, without knowing where the story will end, the first two books were great but then I was really dissappointed with the follow ups...

Agreed. Reading the last one, I kept looking at how many pages were left and thinking to myself that there was no way he was going to be able to end it that quickly. I felt a bit cheated that it was all tossed together, but the joy is in the journey I guess.

I think that's the ticket to enjoying the series. He says that's what he set out to do and I think he did a great job on the journey aspect of the book.

However I'm sure I'm a little biased since I picked it up once they were all completed. I'm sure I would have felt a little more cheated had I been one of those devoted people that were waiting years for the follow ups to come out.

The last book felt rushed but I wasn't disappointed with the ending.

Re: Do you read? Favourite Books...

Well, I have gone through other great series and I have to admit I forgot to mention the really great
"Otherland" books by Tad Williams, a great series, I really chewed my nails for every new book to be translated and published, but even there the end was not that fullfilling, but maybe more, because I was sad that there will be no more great books to follow.
But the "Dark Tower" end was unfullfilling in an other way, I can not explain it, but it was like buying a car with three wheels, a great chassis, nice engine, beautiful colour, but a lacking wheel... I do not know...

Re: Do you read? Favourite Books...

I can totally understand that sentiment.

Speaking of translated books I've been enjoying the Vampire hunter D books that have been translated over from Japanese. They're great quick reads.

I'm going to check out the Tad Williams you just mentioned. Is it epic? I love epic.
