Re: Cheap RAM Upgrade?
Make sure you get the right type!!, We thought we had gotten a great deal on some good used ram from a good seller/used computer place in town..
What we needed was DDR, which is not made very much anymore, it is MORE expensive.
What i got was DDR2 or DDRII. Those fit the newer laptops, but not ones more than 3-5 yrs old.
We paid 40 or more for each 512 stick we used.
AND>>>>>
PLEASE remember, you may have to follow a specific sequence of putting each stick in.
Like bay 1 first, then start and turn off the computer then put in the stick in bay 2, and then do the same thing.. Then check it before closing up the bottom of the laptop.
Each type of laptop is different, so check with a dell dealer OR a used computer shop first.
AND AND AND
DON"T touch the memory stick with your bare hands. UNLESS you have grounded yourself first, they sell a cheap throw away grounding strap, it has to be attached to something like a faucet on your kitchen sink.
A single errant static spark can render your expensive memory stick into a expensive peice of plastic..
Just an FYI..
I have done that.. gotten the piece of plastic, that should have been a stick.. and ruined a 256 stick of my hubby's...
Hope this helps

Re: Cheap RAM Upgrade?
I use www.pricewatch.com to check pricing and such. You'll need to be sure what kind of RAM you need, like everyone mentioned.
A few dogs, a bunch of chickens, 3 ducks, and 2 Pygmy goats

Download "CPU-Z" and run it. It'll tell you what kind of Memory you have. If it's DDR or DDR2 SO-DIMMS then brand won't matter. Also the speed isn't really important, (That PC3200) but you do want higher or the same speed RAM. [I did computer manufacturing and development for 3 years so seriously if you have any questions computer related shoot me a PM and I can give you free no BS advice - This applies to anyone!]
